THE QUESTION OF ACCREDITATION AND CREDIBILITY
What Every Prospective Student Should Consider

INVESTING WISELY IN YOUR FUTURE
Choosing your education in line with your life goals is applying wisdom to your dreams. This is especially true in Biblical education. Every student looking to invest in preparing for the Lord’s work needs to consider the college they choose carefully. The traditional thought is that it only applies to regionally accredited colleges or universities. However, does that make your education better? Let’s look at the pros and cons of receiving your degree from an accredited college.
PROS
- Teaching Opportunities - If the goal of your life is teaching at an accredited college or university, then your degree must be from an accredited college.
- Federal Grants – Non-accredited colleges and universities do not receive federal funds for offering grants.
- Counseling – To be a secular counselor, you will need a degree from an accredited college. However, there are many opportunities in the field of Biblical Counseling with different requirements.
- Chaplain – Most chaplain programs require a degree from an accredited college.
CONS
- Tuition - The average cost of college* in the United States is $38,270 per student per year, including books, supplies, and daily living expenses. That means a four-year degree will leave you with a debt of just over $145,000. https://educationdata.org/average-cost-of-college
- Studying in class or cohorts – An on-campus program demands your attendance each week. Some online programs have cohorts that start and study together. However, it is difficult to work and be in a cohort that requires online attendance with the class. This is especially difficult for families.
- Debt upon Graduation – As mentioned above, the cost of a degree can leave a family struggling financially for years to come. Do the opportunities obtained by their degree make that burden worthwhile?
What would a degree from Master’s International University accomplish, since it chooses not to be regionally accredited?
