Orientation
The purpose of this course is to help ensure that the student will begin his or her study program at Master’s with the basic information needed to move successfully toward graduation. For this reason, this course is mandatory of all new students.

Advanced Biblical Directionism Counseling I BD-501

The purpose of this course is to increase the student’s appreciation for the Bible as an adequate handbook for the human mind, and to supply the student with a functioning system for using the Bible as a counseling model.

Biblical Counselor, the Counseling Center, and the Law: BCCL-1510

This course is designed to inform the student of the best practices to avoid legal issues in the Biblical Counseling practice. The secondary purpose is the prepare the student with the basic information needed to establish a counseling ministry.

Theology of Disability: An Investigation TD-1500

Course Purpose: This course explores the issue of disability from a biblical and theological perspective. The number of individuals in the world who are affected by disability is in excess of one billion. Adding to this the number of family members also impacted by having a family member who is disabled suggests that this is potentially the largest unreached people group in the world because of the failure of the church to extend the gospel to, and welcome these individuals. Yet even a quick read of the Gospels reveals that this is a people group of particular concern to Jesus. This course is designed to help church leaders gain a theological understanding of disability and God’s view of persons with disability.

Personhood from a Biblical Perspective PH-1502

Course Purpose: To direct the student to a Biblical foundation for understanding God’s idea for personal self-awareness. To lead the student through a Biblical assessment of the so-called “self-esteem” movement. To compare and analyze the prevailing secular attitude regarding self-esteem over against the Scriptural teachings related to these attitudes. To prepare the student to deal with the issue of self-esteem within a Biblical counseling regime.

Ministering to Persons with Disabilities: MPD-1500

Course Purpose: The purpose of this course is to help people in ministry positions become more effective in ministering to and with individuals and families affected by disability. The needs of the individual and family resulting from the disability, family dynamics, and special issues related to outreach and inclusion in church life are considered from a biblical and pastoral care perspective.

Advanced Essentials in Biblical Counseling I AE-501

This course will introduce the student to the broader aspects of multidimensional biblical (nouthetic) counseling. The student will have the opportunity to recognize, identify and recite these concepts.

Focus in Biblical Counseling I FB-501

The purpose of this course is to help the student apply the more advanced truths of Matthew 7:5 by understanding the eternal truths upon which Biblical Counseling rests so that they are better equipped to take these truths to others; to build a practical foundation for the students to enable them to identify those issues in themselves which are germane to the work they do with others.

Advanced Marriage and Family Counseling II MF-501

The purpose of this course is to further expose the student to a biblical approach to Marriage and Family counseling so that the student will acquire the basic knowledge of the biblical conceptions of family roles and interpersonal relationships, and be able to trace the importance of these data and interpret them in terms of the counseling process.

Crisis Counseling CC-501

The purpose of this course is to instruct the student in the recognition and management of crisis situations in the lives of people they seek to help.

Role and Function of a Healthy, Healing Church HC-1501

Course Purpose: To explore the biblical and experiential components that go into developing and leading a local church that is healthy and offers hope and healing to the lost and hurting. A church, just like a family, can be toxic and a hindrance to growth and development or it can be healthy and promote the development and growth of its members. This course will explore the healthy as well as the toxic.

Biblical Approach to Substance Abuse SU-501

This course, taught by a leading Pharmacologist, will cover the basics of substance abuse from a Biblical position, and introduce the student to Biblical counseling methods for dealing with this all to common addiction of our day.

Biblical Counseling Practicum CP-1520

This course will serve as the counseling program capstone for the student who has completed all of the other academic requirements for the Biblical Counseling degree program.

Graduate Research and Writing GRW-500

The purpose of this course is to provide the graduate student with an opportunity to examine the fundamentals of research and writing from a practical and professional perspective, as a foundational step in preparation for completing the graduate writing project.

Graduate Writing Project GWP-500

This is the final writing project for the master’s student. While similar in many ways to a thesis, it is fundamentally different in that it is designed to be a “ministry” position paper written from a praxis position. Students are prepared for this course by taking the Research and Writing course.
