Admission-Transfer-Credit

Policy on Admission, Transfer Credits, Life-Learning Credit

  • General Admission Policy

We are an open admission institution.   This means that you can enroll at any time of the year without regard to semesters.

We are also an international institution.  We encourage applications from prospective students who live outside of the United States.  Please note:

    • Because all of our programs are in English, prospective students must demonstrate acceptable English language skills prior to enrollment.
    • Prospective students must have adequate study resources (access to email, the internet, and postal support).
    • Since we bring the school to the student online, we do not participate in the U.S. I-20 student visa program.

Entrance requirements are specific for each program.

Application for an undergraduate program by persons not having previously earned college credits will involve a review in order to assure placement in the most appropriate program.  A high school diploma, GED or validation of comparable qualification is acceptable.

However, applicants over the age of 25 may be considered for provisional enrollment in the School of the Bible Certificate Programs, and the Diploma of Divinity.

Enrollment in a master's degree requires an appropriate bachelor's degree or its academic equivalent.   Enrollment in a doctorate degree requires an appropriate master's degree or its academic equivalent.

The application process is uncomplicated.   An Admissions Officer will help guide you through the process of data gathering, program choice, and financial considerations.

We are a school for mature adults.  Most of our students have already been serving in Christian ministry for many years.  All of our programs are designed for people who must balance the desire for further education with the demands of a busy life.

  • Accepting Transfer Credits

    GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTANCE*

All credits, certificates, diplomas, and degrees earned through other institutions will be respectfully reviewed.  Recognition is likely, providing the institution followed appropriate academic guidelines, and the transfer is relevant to the program into which application is being made.

In some cases, if full transfer is not allowed, it may be possible to grant limited recognition.  When this option is permitted, it provides an opportunity for the applicant to receive partial credit for work done at a less academically rigorous institution to reduce some of the requirements in a program at Master's.

    Examples of other institutions:

    • Bible Institutes & Colleges
    • Divinity Schools & Seminaries
    • Colleges & Universities
    • Trade & Business Schools
    • Military, Police, Fire, and First-Responder programs
    • Other formal training programs

*As with all academic institutions, Master's reserves the right to accept or decline credits, certificates, diplomas, and degrees earned at other institutions.

  • Life-Learning Credit

Credit for Life-Learning May be A Key to Earning Your Undergraduate Degree.

One of the distinguishing marks of the graduates of Master's International University of Divinity is that they possess a "useful and well rounded" education.  Consequently, we encourage the recognition of knowledge that has been gained from a wide variety of learning experiences.  These may include such things as military training, civilian labor force training in the trades and business, as well as technical schools, specialized church and missions training programs, or the hard won lessons that come through working in church related fields of service.

Such learning helps to build character, encourage self-discipline, and promote personal maturity.  This does not mean that all prior learning can be granted recognition. However, it does mean that through a careful assessment of your entire life's learning, placement in the program of your choice may be more reasonably assured.

A typical Master's International University of Divinity undergraduate student usually applies using a combination of college credits, military school credits, advanced standing for ministry experience, and certificates from different training programs in business and church-related seminars.  Our Prior Learning Portfolio system provides the student a step-by-step guide for documenting up to 30 credits in six learning areas.

Learning Area Descriptions and Credit Points:

    • General Bible knowledge of the Old Testament - 5
    • General Bible knowledge of the New Testament - 5
    • Basic communication (i.e. speaking, and writing) - 5
    • Basic teaching (i.e. lesson preparation, teaching, leading) - 5
    • Basic business (i.e. math, English, computer, data entry, record keeping systems) - 5
    • Basic health (i.e. physical, mental, spiritual, recreation, nutrition) - 5
    • After documentation, and approval, maximum total points awarded may be as many as 30

Credit for Life-Learning May be  Applied to These Programs:

    • Bachelor of Ministry:  up to 30 credits
    • Bachelor of Divinity:  up to 30 credits
    • Most B.A. Degrees:  up to 30 credits

Recognizing Credit for Life-learning that has been documented through an academically appropriate "Life-learning Portfolio" assessment tool is a widely accepted practice among all colleges and universities.  Such credit is applied only at the undergraduate level.
